Joel Osteen Sermon Notes – “Say So”

  1. Words have creative power
    1. When you speak something out, you give life to what you are saying
    2. It is one thing to believe you are blessed
    3. When you say I am blessed it takes on a whole new meaning, that is when blessings come looking for you
  2. Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so.”
    1. Doesn’t say think so or hope so.
    2. If you are going to the next level and accomplish your dreams it has to come out of your mouth, you have to declare it.
    3. God created the world by speaking it into existence
    4. You can believe all day long and not see anything happen
    5. Nothing happens until you speak
    6. Instead of believing you are coming out of debt, you need to say you are coming out of debt.
    7. Instead of hoping it, declare it. Not just hope you will have a good year, but declare it!
  3. Are you giving life to your faith by speaking it out?
    1. Psalm 91 says, “…I will say of the Lord He is my refuge, my fortress, my shield…” The next verse says, “He will deliver me, protect me, cover me”
    2. Notice the connection, “I will say,” and “He will do”
    3. Doesn’t say I believe He is my refuge, I believe He is my strength.
    4. No the Psalmist declared it, and spoke it out
  4. Whatever is in your heart needs to be in your conversation
    1. Talk like it has already happened
    2. Talk like it is on the way
    3. When I get married
    4. When I graduate from college
    5. Staff member trying for 10 yrs to have a baby
      1. In a meeting made a statement “when I have my baby”
      2. After meeting Joel asked his sister why didn’t you tell me she was pregnant?
      3. Sister said she isn’t she pregnant, she just talks like it is going to happen
iv. This went on for years
      4. She was saying so, she was declaring it
      5. In natural she was getting too old to have a baby, but she kept declaring
      6. 20 yrs later she had twins
    6. Think of the opposite of Psalm 91, “I will not say of the Lord and He will not do.” That is the principal nothing happens until you speak.
  5. What are you saying of the Lord?
    1. Don’t talk about how big the problem is, talk about how big your God is!
    2. Are you declaring victory over your life, over your family, over your career?
    3. Whatever God has put in your heart, declare it is coming to pass!
    4. Nothing happens until you speak!
  6. Things Joel declares every day
    1. I am increasing in the anointing, in wisdom, in favor, and in influence.
    2. Every message is getting better, God is taking our ministry where no ministry has gone.
    3. My children will fulfill their destinies. Their gifts and talents will come out to the full. They will supersede anything we have done.
    4. When people turn me on TV, they cannot turn me off.
  7. When Joel was first ministering, he was very nervous, he wasn’t sure he could do it. He started making declarations over his life. He knew he was supposed to step up and pastor. He started declaring over his life in front of a mirror.
    1. You are strong, you are well able, and you are anointed and talented and can do this.
    2. At the time none of it was true
    3. As he kept saying it month after month and week after week, month after month he moved toward it and it eventually became reality.
    4. This principal happens in the positive as well as the negative
  8. Scripture says, “…calls the things that are not as if they already were!” (Romans 4:17)
    1. Many times we do the opposite. We call out how things are describing the situation.
    2. Don’t use words to describe the situation, use your words to change the situation.
  9. Some things to declare
    1. I am getting stronger, healthier and wiser; my youth is being renewed like the eagles!
    2. We are all going to get old and die, but don’t declare that you are going down hill.
    3. Moses was 120 years old, healthy and strong, wasn’t wearing glasses.
    4. In spite of how you feel, every day you need to declare
    5. Everything about me is getting better and better, my bones, my joints, my ligaments, my blood, my organs, my memory, my looks, my skin. My youth is being renewed. Like Moses, I will finish my course with my eye not dim, my natural strength not abated.
    6. Better than looking in the mirror and saying I am so old!
    7. Don’t talk about the the way you are talk about the way you want to be.
    8. Rather than complaining about a difficult time say, I have grace for this season, I am strong in the Lord. Those that are for me are greater than those who are against me!
    9. If you go through a disappointment, a bad break, a loss, say God promised me beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, I am not staying here I am moving forward, the rest of my life will be the best of my life.
  10. One of the best things we can do is take a few minutes every morning and make these positive declarations over our lives.

      1. I am forgiven, I am redeemed, I am wearing a robe of righteousness, God is pleased with me!
    4. The scriptures say …let the weak say I am strong! (Joel 3:10)
      1. It doesn’t say let the weak talk about the weakness

      3. You can’t talk sickness, lack and struggle and expect it to turn around
      4. Have a report of victory instead
